Impellers

are made from cast aluminium, stainless steel and plasticdepending on the application.Impellers are designed with blades that create a spinning action to draw in air or liquid. The blades can be radial or axial, depending on the intended application. In many applications, the impellers are designed to rotate inside a housing, also known as a volute, and can be used to increase pressure or velocity, improve agitation, homogenize mix, and reduce retention time. The material of an impeller will vary by application, with some designs utilizing plastic, aluminum, stainless steel, brass and bronze. For more corrosive materials, stainless steels, including duplex and super duplex alloys, can provide greater corrosion resistance. Depending on the material, the impeller can reach different peak speeds, as well as pressure and temperature rating. If the demands exceed the material’s tolerances, a multi-material design can be implemented.
