Gear Lever Parts

The gear lever is typically made up of four parts: the handle, release lever, mechanism, and linkage. The handle is the part to which the driver physically applies force, usually in the form of a knob or stick, to change gears. The release lever is the part that forces the mechanism and linkage to disengage from each other, thus allowing the handle to be moved to different positions. The mechanism is a set of internal gears and links that work together to convert the motion of the handle into an actual gear change. Finally, the linkage connects the handle to the internal mechanism, allowing for the conversion of motion from one to the other.
