Planetary Gears

Planetary gears, also known as epicyclic gears, are gears that are arranged so that they orbit an inner gear. Planetary gears are found in most automatic transmissions, as they are able to supply high torque output in a compact space. They are composed of three components: the inner sun gear, the planet gears, and the outer annulus. A planetary gear system typically provides high torque output while reducing the input speed at the same time. This results in an increase in the gear ratio, meaning that more torque can be applied to the output shaft. Planetary gears can provide a wide range of gear ratios, and are often used in industrial and automotive applications.
