Solar water heating (SWH) is the conversion of sunlight into renewable energy for water heating using a solar thermal collector. Solar water heating systems comprise various technologies that are used worldwide increasingly.

In a "close-coupled" SWH system the storage tank is horizontally mounted immediately above the solar collectors on the roof. No pumping is required as the hot water naturally rises into the tank through thermosiphon flow. In a "pump-circulated" system the storage tank is ground- or floor-mounted and is below the level of the collectors; a circulating pump moves water or heat transfer fluid between the tank and the collectors.

SWH systems are designed to deliver hot water for most of the year. However, in mansoon period sometimes may not be sufficient solar heat gain to deliver sufficient hot water. In this case a electric booster is used to heat the water

The life and the performance of ETC(Evacuated Tube Collector) Solar Water Heating System depends on the selection of material and manufacturing process of the tank. Most SWH that comes with SS 304 /316 tanks use 0.4 / 0.5 mm thin sheets.These tanks burst due to excessive pressure or overheating.Sometimes they develops pin holes due to effect of chlorine or fluorine dissolved in water.

Tanks made of GI sheets are structurally stable and can with stand pressure.But coating is compromised in the tank making processes like sheet cutting ,loading,unloading, hole punching,embossing and bending.Also Coating near the welding joints of the tanks get burned.There is no fool-proof process to apply anti corrosive coating inside the tank over the burnt portion and corrision starts form there.

Hot-Dip Galvanising is done after the tank manufacturing process is complete.Therefore the coating does not get damages/bruises/scratches on the fuctional surface.It is no brittle like glass and does not crack due to impact.
